- Start a company newsletter. This can be done in Word and sent out via an email attachment or it can be done in an HTML email editor. There are many cost effective options available.
- Take a client out. Everyone loves to be wined and dined. And, it doesn't have to be expensive. Invite a client to happy hour at your favorite restaurant, let the bartender know you're going to be coming and you want extra special treatment.
- Invite key prospects to play a round of golf. Find a charity you care about that is having their annual fundraiser golf outing, buy a golf foursome and get a team together. Even if you're horrible, a little humility can be very attractive.
- Be nice. This one is free. Seriously, in times of high-stress, no cash, laying off people, etc, etc, we can all get a little edgy. I read this quote once, "All things being equal, people like to work with people they like; all things not being equal, people still like to work with people they like."
- Send birthday cards. I don't care how old you are, we all love to be remembered. Send birthday cards to your clients and prospects on their special day. And, make them hand-written, not an email. If you can't get the date, ask their administrative assistant or co-worker, they'll tell you, especially if you let them know why you're asking.
